Pros

- good bonus plan - benefits are average - for the most part, most employees are friendly

Cons

- everyone is paranoid - 'sales aren't good enough, yet they are higher than last year' - No new ideas are appreciated or accepted - Management is top heavy and they just want more and more out of each employee. You can't get blood from a stone - So much change in the last year that people are paranoid if they are next on the chopping block - HR is not approachable - Firings are left, right and centre - watch your back everyone!!!!!! - So many great people have resigned this year because of the restrictions put on their jobs - The higher ups say they care, but they don't. Bottom line is all that matters to them - Culture is gone - Startech is going down and fast

Working for Startech is overrated.

Pros

Decent benefits, although you have to pay into them. Salary is okay.

Cons

The previous reviewer sounds like someone from the marketing department trying to make the company look good on this website. I mean line by line responses to the one reviewer who bashed the company, sounds a little fishy to me. Anyways, I agree that the cameras on the ceiling are a little much, makes me feel like I'm working at a bank or something. People are always gossiping and talking smack about other employees, don't think you can get away from that at any company though. All I can say is that startech is NOT for everyone, it takes a special kind of person to work here, and after almost 2 years I'm searching for new employment. After working here I've realized that I can do better than this overly stressful environment. Not too crazy about the motivational retreats for the employees, feels like we're getting motivated to work harder but it doesn't really improve the working environment. Lastly, I don't think anyone in their right mind would say that startech is an enviable workplace, VERY far from it.

Thank you to everyone for taking the time to post their feedback and opinions on Glassdoor! We appreciate the compliments and the candor. We are always working to make things better for our employees. And although many people find StarTech.com a great place to work, some don’t. And that’s ok! People who love StarTech.com stay here. Our turnover rate is only 4% and our engagement scores are consistently over 80%. But as a couple recent negative reviews show, StarTech.com is not for everyone. The pace is fast, the environment is one of tremendous growth, and people who love learning, developing, building, persevering, and who have a sense of humour and humility fit our culture best. I would like to address one particular issue I feel is important to clear up. That’s the comment about our use of workplace surveillance cameras. We do have cameras in our building. A surveillance system is typical of many workplaces, and our cameras are completely visible – not hidden. We have cameras to help keep our employees and equipment safe. StarTechers work at varied hours to support our global business, often early morning and evening when the majority of employees have gone home. For the same reason, we have overhead lighting and cameras in our parking lots and key card access in our facility. People are entitled to their opinions about working at StarTech.com. And we respect that! Hearing varied opinions is helpful to us. We’re growing quickly, and transitioning from a small to a larger company means we are in a constant phase of building, developing, growing and learning. The feedback on what people love and what they don’t helps us shape our programs, services and practices for employees.
