Benefits and flexibility overshadowed by high stress and poor standards
Pros
Good benefits for a PT job, strong (trauma) bonding between staff, flexible scheduling if you don’t need a ton of hours. Free food (7 items/week, which may have changed since I left) + free drinks and coffee beans.
Cons
New CEO made everyone’s lives worse by introducing new standards that did nothing to increase efficiency or satisfaction. No one cares if your cup has a note on it if they’re waiting forever for their coffee. Standards changed by day and location. No consistency between how anything is done because the standards are constantly changing. Unrealistic expectations for drive times because we were constantly under staffed. Highly stressful during peak hours. Once was asked to clean mold out of back fridges during a renovation, no proper PPE provided. Almost called OSHA because the mold was so bad. Machines + equipment are frequently broken, making baristas’ lives more difficult. Abusive customers, especially the delivery drivers. My location was near a hospital and was not staffed properly to handle the insane amount of traffic and large orders that would come through.
