Pros

The benefits are almost unbeatable. If you get a good boss you have fun at work. I recommend working at a non drive thru.

Cons

It's really a crap shoot depending on which boss you work for. Getting promoted is all about sucking up to the boss. Get in with them on a personal level and they'll take care of you. Don't worry about becoming the best barista. That actually hurts growth. The better barista you are, the less they want to promote you. They don't believe in promoting from within. in 4 years, almost every shift supervisor I've had was hired in as one. It's not impossible to get promoted, but like I said it has nothing to do with how good you are at your job.

Pros

Outstanding benefits, flexible work schedule, good environment, Starbucks actually believes in putting the customer first- it's not just a motto, upper management is fairly hands off,

Cons

Store Managers are required to spend roughly 90-95% of their time on the floor doing the same job as the baristas. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it seriously limits your ability to run the logistics side of a store. Inventory management, scheduling, training, etc. It means that any and all managerial tasks have to be done after a 7 or 8 hour shift. The pay is just not in line for this to be a 60+ hour a week job, but that's what it has a tendency to be. I was originally attracted to this job because of the work lif balance, but that is rapidly slipping away.
