Pros

Decent benefits, free coffee while on the clock, a few decent customers. When left to our own devices, partners were able to do exactly what Starbucks wanted: create enthusiastically satisfied customers all the time.

Cons

Incompetent managers, too many terrible customers, deceptive in requirements and opportunities for promotion, sub-standard pay. When management would interfere, partners were often cut off at the knees and unable to provide even marginally satisfactory customer service. This proved true in several stores at which I worked during my six years with the company. When "developing" partners for promotion, partners are commonly given a great deal of extra work to do without additional compensation. Feedback is vague and unhelpful - partners will often be "developing" for years before (or even if) they are ultimately promoted.

Hard to Handle

Pros

The pay is great, more than you will get at any other food service industry. The benefits and stock are also amazing, no matter where you are at in life/career.

Cons

You are on call 24/7 for your store. The training is 2 months, incredibly basic and glosses over every important detail needed to be a truly effective manager within Starbucks' standards. You are not protected by anyone to your own time off, and you are required to take your administrative days IN the cafe. You are effectively floor coverage for your 8 hour shift and if you are lucky, you might be able to get off the floor to do some administrative tasks. Overall, the amount of hours worked is much higher than 40, there is no consistency to your schedule, and your staff will quit on a dime leaving you to work an open/close shift. In a less busy store, might be worth it.

Pros

fun and unique co-workers. free drinks. that's it.

Cons

Always understaffed even while huge promotions are going on. You're constantly given false hope of promoting just to get you to cover someone's shift. Starbucks loves to preach about mental health but the moment you're not feeling mentally available you get yelled at by upper management. You're getting paid $17 an hour for selling your soul and juggling the work of 3 other people. Sometimes it will just be you and a supervisor while the line is out the door and online mobile orders flow in like harry potters invitations to hogwarts. Hours also suck. Sure you're getting paid above minimum wage but unless its the summer or holiday season, you only get 12 hours a week. Managers make you feel awful for calling out when you're sick. If you request a certain availability managers will give you minimum amount of hours forcing you to go back to open availability. Everyone who works here hates it. The only reason to stay is for the fake "family" of crew you are working for. Starbucks also preaches about the quality of their coffee and customer connections. Everyday is a fake plastered smile and fast food quality coffee. The company doesn't care about us, they don't give us the a full staff to meet company values. We are doing the bare minimum to get paid and survive. Starbucks used to be the leader in pay, now anywhere else is paying the same or more without having to handcraft drinks or deal with the rudest customers on the planet.
