Pros

Competitive salary, good medical and dental benefits. Good opportunities to learn about the insurance industry.

Cons

Where shall I begin? This company is a mess, and to say that it's toxic is being kind. As many have mentioned, Starr has serious issues with its managent and its HR department. There is a severe lack of communication, and no protocol in place. It's gut wrenching seeing many who work hard and do what they need to do to save money out of respect for their employer, to be threatened and even terminated without cause. Many underwriters, adjusters, and staff receive little to no bonus, however many in management travel like rock stars and abuse expenses. There is absolutely no support for mid management and support staff either. Very little opportunity for development and growth, and no recognition for hard work. Starr did start off on the right foot, but this company is now a shell of what it used to be. There is also far too much loyalty to ex-longtime AIG employees, despite that some of these employees lack the skill set needed for this century. HR especially needs to take note about labor law abuses in some of the departments. Some staff work through lunch daily, and are denied vacation requests. I know some staff can't even take off when they are sick. HR needs to step up and ensure the laws are followed, and stop catering to unreasonable people's demands (who are unfortunately in management!)

Pros

nice people decent bonus good happy hours for those who eat sleep and breath insurance like ceo, you can make a lot of money

Cons

systems are stuck in the 1980;s, too many problems everyone has a AIG entitlement to them the new systems barely work any better than the old systems they were implemented to replace. too many growing pains with a new company there just learning there processes for audit and keep changing it.
