Pros

State Farm hires you to make decisions, which means they trust you to do your job. This allows for great flexibility in this role because I can create my schedule and nobody will try to micro-manage me as long as I am doing my job. The pay is great considering I am new. Do not go off of the base pay if you are deployed because when I'm deployed I make at least $10,000 per month pre-tax not including per diem. It is an unspoken rule that you will make almost double your base pay due to all of the OT we are expected to work. All of my expenses are covered by the company and the benefits in this company are top tier. When we are deployed, if you have a rewards membership with hotels, airlines, and car rental companies, you can earn significant amounts of points! There are opportunities for growth including tuition reimbursement and I appreciate that there are systematic processes for how to do the majority of my job, so I do not have to ask questions unless I really cannot find the answer. They give you a company vehicle and will fly your spouse or significant other to you during deployments. When you are not deployed, you can work from home on virtual deployments or just be off and still receive your base salary. There is a gym membership that you can purchase through the insurance provider that allows you to access multiple gyms for a low cost! If you have a good manager, they will look out for you.

Cons

Management is not consistent with how they want things completed so one manager will tell you to do something, but if you speak to another manager they will ask you why you are doing what you are doing. It is by far the hardest thing to deal with because one day you will be doing something and the next day they are telling you that you are doing it incorrectly as if they did not tell you do do it that way in the first place. This makes individual experience dependent on their managers within the company. Not all managers are the same, some know the company and care for your growth, while others do not have the people skills to manage well. I have had the opportunity to have great managers at each deployment, but it's by God's grace because I have heard some horror stories. Also, the hours are LONG! Most days we work 6/10s, but if there is a catastrophic event you will be expected to work 7/12s until things are addressed. Lastly, you get deployed to WHEREVER they need you. As a person of color, some places in America are still very prejudiced and sometimes you may end up somewhere you are not invited. Management will do their best to help you, but the reason why this is a con is because it is a roll of the dice on who your manager is and whether they care enough.

Pros

Base pay + commission. Generated leads available. No weekends.

Cons

Minimal base pay and low commission percentage. Many have no additional benefits making it very unattractive to stay long term. I would stay if the pay was better and included healthcare.
