Pros

Still offers a pension and access to group health in retirement. Technology job with just a 10 minute commute. Decent "work-life" balance. Peers are many first line managers are easy tio work with.

Cons

Average pay. Advancement opportunities (pay and position) limited. Internal JOP (Job Opportunity Program) currently frozen because of frenetic reaction to large IT intitiaitve that has set unrealistic goals and resource challenges. Largest employer in Bloomington-Normal so it has a captive hold on employees as there are very few (read only one-- CAT) IT employers of similar size within a reasonable driving distance. Bloomington-Normal is stuck in the cornfields and therefore is flat, windy and humid in the summer and bone-chillingly cold int he winter. BN has few natural attractions and is politically/socially fairly conservative and is situated at least 2.5 hours away from big-metro areas.

Pros

Commissions are nice and there is not a monthly cap. Internet leads are also provided to help with your pool. If you work hard (well over 40 hours), there is a good chance of being promoted to the agent pool.

Cons

There are no benefits and though internet leads are better than no leads, they are basically cold calls. Even though you are making an honest attempt to save your prospective customers money, they rarely give you the chance and usually hang up before you get that far in your spill.

Pros

Excellent brand and name brand recognition. Computers, software, systems and training supplied by company. All excellent. Earn residual income, new commissions and an excellent year end bonus. Annual bonus provided by company based on production to invest for retirement. Traveled around the world on incentive trips. Fully paid by company. Excellent accomodations. Praise and recognition important to company and it's agents. Most agents are helpful in helping each other achieve goals. Management supportive and willing to help in any way they can. Most agents are lifetime agents. Excellent benefits. Great agent and staff training.

Cons

Cannot sell book of business. Company owns accounts. Cannot purchase books of business or accounts. Not a good place for average or below sales and management talent. Takes a few years to develop a good cash flow. Not ideally suited for individuals who do not have cash to carry them in early years.
