Pros

The internship is a great opportunity to travel (if you're not from Bloomington), meet a TON of other students like you, and really get your foot in the door. Almost everyone knows about State Farm, so adding it to your resume will make you have pride in where you've worked. The internship is great experience in any field, because there are so many departments within the company.

Cons

You have to be ready for the corporate-culture. The internship always starts off really slow (as does any internship) and then once you get into the swing of things, you will be working a full-time job. Once you have enough work to accomplish, the time will go by very quickly.

Pros

Hardly ever any layoffs. Little oversight from a share holder board (please check for ownership type information, you would be surprised). Company funded pension + 401k. So, there is little attrition. Good town for young families. Friendly with veterans and GEDs.

Cons

Low attrition makes nepotism very prevalent. Families work here for 2 or 3 generations. If you don't have high school friends here, you are at a disadvantage politically. Things move in glacier time. Education is seldomly critical. Ivy League types better not apply. Very risk averse. A lot of people show up for retirement rather than work. Once you come here for 2 or 3 years, you may find you become un-marketable out there. So, if you will come here, make sure you try extra hard to stay up to date about the outside market trends.

Pros

Pay, education, advancement based on who you know.

Cons

It is sad that Ed Rust is not aware of the comings and goings of his senior management and how they treat good and bad employees. How they show favortism and if you are liked you may lie, cheat, and steal from the company, but if you follow all the rules you may not keep your job. Do as they say or move on. I'm new in my role and will play the game to keep my job.
