Pros

The professionalism and training you get at State Farm is second to none. In working in a State Farm Agency you get the satisfaction of putting yourself to the test against your peers along with the feeling of comraderie and being apart of a successful orginization. It is also a great feeling when you connect with the customers and you feel like you are truly protecting them from life's risk. I also like working for the industry leader. Ultimately in an agency your compensation is based on your work ethic and creativity. i could not imagine working for another insurance company.

Cons

The underwriters can really rigid and at times I feel the overall culture is too uptight, but its hard to argue with the results. At times it can be overwhelming trying to balance the pressure from your agent to sell when the underwriters are so strict. The obvious and most frustrating part of the job is dealing with a customer who thinks they are getting ripped off. Of Course they do not realize their is absolutely nothing you can do about it. These customers confuse good business practices with greedy business practices. It also can be frustrating taking the heat for someone else's mistake.

Pros

The stability is very reassuring. Every few years the company "reorganizes it operations". If your mobile you will likely always have a position somewhere. If the company requires you to move, they will likely pay the relocation costs and the relocation package is more than fair.

Cons

Nepotism is blatant and qualified candidates without connections are often passed over or delayed for promotions. Often with State Farm, it's not what you know, it's who you know. The company is divided into zones and certaines zones are not as progressive as others.
