Pros

Looks good on the resume, the economy sucks - that's about it.

Cons

The pay is laughable compared to similar jobs in the industry. When promotions are given you're expected to work long hours without much appreciation for it. If you are looking to advance your career this is not the field to be doing it. Absolute arm pit of the industry.

Pros

Provides an opportunity to gain valuable industry experience. Open to hire people from all backgrounds and education level. Amazing benefit package, health care and 401K is above industry standard. Perfect for people who just want to get by, plenty of downtown to work on graduate school homework and watch Netflix throughout the day.

Cons

Where to start! Compensation is point one and the most important aspect of why SS is the worst place to work. PA starts at 30K, senior at 34K... bonus (although tough times) is INCREDIBLY low. If you have a college degree, especially one from a prestigious or respected institution, have fun working with people who have associate degrees from community colleges or better yet, a high school diploma. Casual culture to the max, not for people who are ambitious. Jeans and tee shirts are the norm in the summer. It is aweful. No one to look up to in management, they are simply in their positions because of the time spent at the company, not based on merit in any sense.

Pros

Decent experience if your a recent graduate The LRIF matching was a great benefit

Cons

Management! Management! Management! State Street has to have the worst managers in the business. Every one of the managers I worked under was either rude, moody or incompetent. And in one case it was all 3 at once! To make matters worse the Senior Managers never show their faces to you and don't seem to mind that the company has such a large turnover rate. Couple the problems with the managers with absolutely horrible pay rates and you get one awful place to work. The opportunities for advancement are also severely limited. Getting up to the level of Senior Fund Accountant is easy (if your manager likes you) but from there it is very difficult. Most of the managers are "lifers" who won't leave as they know they could not make it elsewhere.
