Pros

Meet people. Be in a downtown setting.

Cons

My first year I received 5 vacation days and made 30k. I was a naive post grad, now I'm embarrassed I ever took the job as I am making more than twice that with 3 weeks vaca only 1.5 years later (on top of the fact that the companies awful rep generates a lot of teasing and "thats sucks" when you mention you work there). I was under 4 different managers in the span of one year and was constantly stuck underneath incompetent people with meaningless titles who just got shuffled around all damn day. The morale was pitiful, it was always someones last day at SS (good times drinking though!). Wasnt allowed to take any time off in the beginning of the month. When I did it was 5 days total and I made 30k a year so that sums it up....

Pros

It's fairly easy to get a job if you know someone working there, it's right in the middle of Boston and T-accessible, the benefits are decent, and the job itself is pretty straightforward.

Cons

Some workgroups are extremely cliquely and promote a "frat boy" atmosphere, the work is based solely on routine (they don't explain what your funds are or why they're recorded in a certain manner) and it's hard to be promoted without playing office politics. The pay was low, even for entry-level work.

Pros

The people and the carmarderie at State Street is a huge reason employees stick around at SSC. Long lasting bonds and friendships are made that can last a lifetime.

Cons

The size of the organization makes it difficult to get noticed. If you are used to receiving promotions and moving up the "corporate ladder" then SSC is not suitable place for you. The communication as well as most places can be much improved and engage others in decision making. Everyday you may think you are going to make a difference, but when you sum it up, the only difference makers are at the top.
