Pros

Generous compensation packages are offered and are increased with advancement within the company; offices located within the heart of Boston make it a great place to be; numerous benefits and opportunities to participate in civic affairs/philanthropic efforts.

Cons

Many roles involve monotonous workdays and daily deadlines that, until they are done each and every day, will require you to put in extra hours (senior associates and above are not eligible for overtime compensation).

Pros

Large company with opportunity to move up and sideways. It is a good place to learn many important aspects of the financial services industry. They have good training programs and are pretty well organized.

Cons

They don't pay as much as other organizations. Management may attempt to limit your advancement if it serves them. You really have to fight to get exposure to other parts of the organization if you're trying to change career paths. It's possible but not easy.

Pros

I'm in State Street Global Markets as a contractor, so I can't comment on the benefits because I'm not familiar with them, but as a workplace environment, it's a tough place to guage- there's really no uniformity to the way things are run. This can be a benefit depending on which department you're in and who you're working under. I'm able to work from home sometimes, and the lack of process in what I'm doing makes it easier for me to implement my own ways of doing things. The money is pretty decent as well. I'm a contractor, but I'm working 50 hours per week.

Cons

Management management management. Some of Senior Management is great, and some have no idea how to run a staff or how to put good middle management into place.
