Pros

This is a remote job and I had wonderful people who worked for and with me. That's it.

Cons

Freelance team members mean nothing to leadership. People are cut without warning for arbitrary reasons. Plus, the pay is ridiculously low. There is a content mill mentality and everyone below upper leadership is treated like they are incompetent. This is a highly abusive and toxic environment with untrustworthy human resources when you need their help. I've experienced and witnessed discriminatory practices at this company. The way my staff was treated, the discrimination, the way I was forced to cut people for stupid reasons, and the absurdly low pay was ultimately why I left after several years. I'm so glad I left.

Pros

Consistent work and pay, which is a rarity these days

Cons

Every bad review you read here is accurate. Static is taking advantage of a very bad market now to abuse and exploit down-on-their-luck writers in need of work: -Inconsistent editors resulting in unclear expectations -Typos often added to work -Low pay and high quotas -Headline first, facts later mentality. If an editor pitches an article, they have not done any reading or research on the topic they just think the wording sounds cool. Often headlines don't make sense and it's the writer (who is expected to turn out 400 to 500 words every three hours) who is tasked with flagging and correcting the mistake of higher paid individuals -You need to source your own images and SEO links (which are rarely, if ever, provided by the lazy editors) while also maintaining an absurdly high word count -Content mill with high turnover -Creepy upper management with sketchy histories if you look into their backgrounds -Incredibly demoralizing -- I talk about this job in therapy a lot
