Going downhill fast

Pros

Good people. I trust and respect my coworkers.

Cons

Agile is out the window. The culture used to be going in a positive direction, but lately things have gone waterfall, and micromanagement is the new norm. Instead of inspiring and challenging engineers by getting their buy in on a less than ideal company goal, the leadership just expects everyone to hop to and get it done. Why? Because they say so. Leadership has become very critical and blames engineering teams for their own failures in setting reasonable expectations with customers. The CEO takes a 'my way or the highway' approach, rather than being honest with where the company is at, sharing his vision, and putting employees first. Failures are blamed on the employees and brought up year after year.

Pros

Coworkers are great. A lot of really fun and talented people. Pay seems fair for engineering. The gym is decent. There is a fun Halloween party every year. The new curriculum manager as of spring 2018 is an improvement.

Cons

Pay is very bad for curriculum dept. Leadership changes their minds constantly. Very little transparency. Very little autonomy. Employees are not trusted to do what they were hired to do. Internal software for building courses is always broken and causes curriculum teams to spend a lot of time re-doing things. More and more responsibilities are piled on but there are no raises. Glass offices upstairs looking down on everyone else are uncomfortable. There is a lot of favoritism. No real opportunities for growth (but new curriculum manager seems to be trying to change that).
