      Pros

      Great program staff, dedicated to mission and to conservation. Many loyal individuals who have stayed at the organization through thick and thin.

      Cons

      A toxic organizational culture, starting with the senior leadership team and percolating down through the organization. CEO has surrounded herself with ineffective leadership team who are loyal to her but not to the organization. There is an environment of distrust and fear that ironically comes from the person in charge of HR whose job it is to create the opposite effect. I have never seen a more fear-driven culture in any nonprofit.

      - free housing for some positions - fun experience to learn more in the field

      Cons

      - pay is negligible so you will need to have savings to support yourself - position satisfaction will widely vary depending on placement; some host sites don't really want to be bothered with the SCA interns

      Pros

      Good work culture, fulfilling job, formed great relationships with co-crew leaders, train you well but some knowledge in conservation / the environment seems pretty key

      Cons

      Requires a lot of physical activity, exposure to bugs + poison ivy, a lot of outside work (e.g. coordinating field trips, logging project details, weekly phone conferences) beyond regular work hours
