Teachers have no rights

Pros

Teachers and most principals at Summit are passionate, intelligent, and work very hard. They are excited to collaborate, learn and try new things.

Cons

Summit (the organization) abuses teachers. As an at-will employee, you have no rights. Some days you're made to work for 12 hours with no bathroom break. Some days you are told to stay until 9pm and still come in at 7am the next day and teach. There's no additional compensation for any of these activities. The San Jose schools didn't have substitutes this year, so when teachers were out sick, other teachers were made to substitute (again without any compensation). Class size can be as high as 40 students per class, and there's very minimal coaching from admin/the Summit Organization.

They con me to leave my last company and told me anything I want to hear. I should have stayed where I was where I was respected and happy. Now I see them doing this to others. I hope no one makes the same mistake I did and work for a company that is not only unethical but would roll anyone over to get what they want. DON'T COME HERE! IT'S HORRIBLE!

This "school" is ALL about private profits using tax dollars!

Pros

Summit "Public Schools" is only public insofar as where they get their money. It's COMPLETELY PRIVATE outside of that and they keep a very, very tight lid on the REAL information about their schools. It's a GREAT place to work IF you are one of the executives; then you'll bring home a boatload of money---all of it provided at taxpayer expense, of course---but it's just awful if you've been hired as a teacher. The executives, investors and owners are ROLLING in the dough, all provided by hard working average income taxpayers; and they do their best to hide that information. They're not to be trusted.

Cons

They lie to parents about how well their kids are doing. They lie to kids about their career prospects after graduation. They manipulate numbers to make the company---which they deceptively call a "school" look much better than it actually is. They abuse teachers by making them work obscenely long hours. They know that this will encourage turnover and make it more likely than not that teachers will not stay very long. Then they bring in a new crop of young, idealistic new workers to start the cycle of exploitation all over again.
