Fascinating work, brilliant coworkers and researchers. An opportunity for exposure to ideas and people that might otherwise be inaccessible. Good benefits, although that might be changing.

Cons

One's experience greatly depends on the department. Some are stellar; some are disorganized to the point of incompetency and verging on unethical.

Pros

Sutter Health has outstanding value system, compare to many other companies. It is a value driven organization, they do things because it is "a right thing do to". In 2008 they have donated almost $600 mln in services, materials and money to the most needy of our region. They are cutting edge, and pioneers in many areas of health care industry. It is California's #1 health care provider. Work environment is result oriented without sacrificing their values, so if your are exempt employee you can prioritize your time and tasks, which is great and gives flexibility to take care of the family.

Cons

It is very well established company, not much growth. Employees love this company so much that they almost never leave it, sometimes working for decades. This is good on one hand, but it makes it hard to get any promotions. So most people work in the same position for a very long time. If you like rapid advancements in your carrier in this company it could be very hard to achieve unless of course you are a superb employee.
