Pros

If you do not like acute care settings or are burnt out, home health offers the option of working 1:1 with patients. Hours are pretty much flexible. You can chart anywhere. Lots of overtime opportunities. You work five 8-hour shifts, 2 on-call night shifts, and 1 weekend a month. You call your patients the evening prior to schedule times the next day. You must generally see 5 patients a day unless you are doing a start. Management is pretty supportive. The patients love the nurses for the most part and you can get a lot of satisfaction with this job if you love educating patients and building rapport. Some homes are expansive and wealthy. You see it all.

Cons

Some homes can be filthy. Patients will call you at all times of the day and night. You must keep some kind of work life balance but honestly it's pretty difficult especially when trying to set your schedule for the next day. If a patient no-shows you don't get paid for the visit, but will get paid for the time driving out there and back. Mileage is state reimbursement rate and when gas prices go up the state lags behind with reimbursement. You may drive a lot (80 plus miles a day). No reimbursement for wear and tear on your personal vehicle. Difficult to find patients that like to start early.
