Pros

I began my journey with Sutter Health at 18 years old in Environmental Services. Over the years, Sutter provided opportunities for growth that allowed me to transition into outpatient imaging (MRI, X-ray, and Mammography) while continuing my education. I later advanced into nursing and am now nearing completion of my Advanced Practice Nurse training ( NP).Sutter has supported my professional development, education, and long-term career vision.

Cons

Like any large healthcare system, navigating transitions and growth pathways can sometimes feel complex and slow, especially for employees who advance through multiple roles.

Pros

Attracts highly skilled individuals; some locations have strong sense of teamwork

Cons

Lack of collaboration and communication with many silos; decisions made in a vacuum without key stakeholders, speaking up is not psychologically safe

Pros

Strong benefits package. Flexibility in scheduling and personalizing your individual practice - though it is under wRVU pressure. Potential to earn a high income. Working for a large groups such as this carries the benefits you would expect - stability, support staff, etc.

Cons

Culture here values physicians who highly value generating income via throughput. If you have a specific style of practice that does not emphasize higher than average wRVU generation, you will not fit in here or last long. Due to the type of physicians attracted to this style of practice, there is not a great deal of collegiality overall on the department level, aside from individual friendships. Everyone is too busy and focused on their own individual practice, trying to optimize their own throughout and wRVUs. There is less concern for or interest in process improvement or change at the group level. Changes at the department level seem to be top down announcements. On a practical level, the referral and scheduling process is incredibly flawed. For a generalist willing to see everything this may be less of a problem. If you are a specialist, however, you will be incredibly frustrated by the inefficiency.
