Pros

The company not only offers many opportunities in professional growth, but personal growth as well. Sweetwater has helped me continue on a constructive path to become successful financially and in my personal life as well.

Cons

This job is not easy. It is not for everyone. However, Our HR and management is very upfront about that and you know well in advance at how difficult it is. I do not see this as a downside, but if you are not up for a real challenge, this is not for you.

Pros

No micromanaging. I was formally a self employed musician so I wouldn't normally be into an office environment. But here you are given the latitude to make sales and solve problems in the way you feel is best. Very helpful and honest quarterly evaluations. Management a and other SEs give real, helpful improvement tips, not just corporate platitudes. The owner, Chuck Surack, gives back an unbelievable amount to the community.

Cons

From my own experience and having seen ex-SEs experiences, most cons of being a Sales Engineer are the ones created by your own attitude and behavior. You do have to talk with lots of people as you fill the role of customer service. And while most people are cool, it occasionally means having to soothe an upset customer.

Pros

I have been with Sweetwater for eleven years. I specifically use the word "with," because the relationship to my employer is symbiotic, healthy, and I feel quite strongly that we're all in it together. Having developed a sincere interest in making each customer's experience an exceptional one, I've learned the value of taking ownership of my own perspective. One of the most valuable life lessons I've absorbed up over the course of my career is that of mindset, of my own growth being mine to command. There are few other jobs I've had that could foster a meaningful culture of iron sharpening iron, and I feel quite fortunate to support and be supported by a strong team of people that have become family.

Cons

You are responsible for your success, or your failure. Some people cannot accept this, and it's not for everyone to row their own canoe.
