Pros

good place to start for a trucking career. I recommend going to their school due to reimbursements and pay back once everything is said and done. If you decide to become a trucker look into all the options( dedicated, otr, regional, local, flatbed, van), because there are many. Equipment is ok, but it is luck of the draw to begin with. I started with otr...you will get to see a lot of the country, just from the inside of truck..not much downtime to utilize. Pay is ok, dependant on what job you are with. The account I'm on is 6 days at $.48 a mile. Dispatch isnt bad, isnt great.

Cons

6 days a week with little downtime wears on you. Paid vacation is a paltry 400 dollars. Hours are long. Equipment is no frills; i.e. no fridge, tv, apu for heating/cooling. Trialers can be hard to come by for decent ones while you are on the road. Hard to get owed pay. Im owed less than 100 dollars that I ve been asking for for the past 3 months now. Dependant on route, a lot of miles are not paid for. You get paid zipcode to zipcode on shortest route. Most times a loss of around 15 miles. But I have seen the gps lead a route that was 70 miles difference between paid and traveled. NO WIFI... have a great phone plan if that will be your main source of entertainment. Most trucks can only go 62 miles an hour...starting out this is a nice saftey feature while becoming accustomed to driving, but it is very slow and mundane, I feel rushed all throughout the day because I have to be here at a certain time and I have no accelerator options past that point. Doubtful to be able to enjoy any actual holidays.

Pros

Plenty of loads to haul. As a company OTR driver, they try to get you home every 10-14 days; for 2-3 days. As a dedicated driver, you may get home every weekend.

Cons

Mileage program used shorts you as much as 100 miles, but their excuse it every company does it that way. Calling in to a driver manager can take an hour of more before you actually get to talk to someone. They do not believe in being pro-active, even if you are. Some of the driver managers seem to go out of their way to cause you to fail. Although they constantly harp on using the QualComm (electronic device in all the trucks used for GPS, tracking hours, and electronic communications), most messages go unanswered/ignore. Many times when they do answer, it may be hours after the message was sent.
