Pros

My wife and I trained at the Swift school in Willows Ca in March 2000, we graduated and almost immediately were placed with trainers. that period was more successful for me as my wife was not satisfied with the individual assigned to train her but was satisfied with her subsequent trainer both of whom we appraised highly upon completion. We were placed in a brand new vehicle and with a dm who took very good care of us.We ran hard and were rewarded with jit and dedicated freight within the first year of employment, and managed 18-20k miles per month. The maintenance facilities were more than adequate and timely and if there was a problem with down time it usually had on road service involvement. The facilities at most of the terminals were ok some of them better a few could have been much better. We left because I thought we could make more money with a specialized Gov freight and we did but after three years it was too demanding and we were wishing for general freight once again. The overall experience with swift was positive.

Cons

They occaisionally shorted us on a check . we had to haul some freight we didnot like [grain in a trailer,42k rolls of paper @20 mph up 7 percent grades]long lines and crowds at terminals.inattentiveness by staff at various terminals

Pros

I never had a load problem like others complained about, though I hear now that has changed. Pay was decent as a starter. Truck was okay, it did the job, don’t expect a new truck when you first start, probably gonna get one with some miles on it. There are great people in the company but you gotta end up with them, some just don’t care. I wanted to be on the road with little home time so they kept me running good, though I probably was running harder than I should have been as a rookie-advocate for your needs!

Cons

Was a pain to get support when driver leaders/management weren’t around during office hours/weekends/holidays. They give roadside assistance/hotels hassles about paying for things so their drivers have to deal with the consequences-like sitting waiting for roadside assistance for 5 hours, have no one show up, call again, get someone to arrive 15-20 later. They want to do the job properly as they are trained to but they admitted the problems that they deal with from the higher ups. No wonder the first time, no one came. He fixed the tire, but didn’t replace it like he felt he should have. Had to run on PC to find a safe spot to sleep because the DC doesn’t allow drivers to do their 10 on-site. Don’t take great care of the trailers-had so many trailers with flat tires, finding an empty was a problem at times because they had a hole somewhere, a flat tire, etc. When I was there, their GPS wasn’t close to accurate, not going to go there on that: one of their own people told them to update it years prior but nope, they didn’t then.

Pros

Newer trucks is about all i can say

Cons

First off, the majaority of the trucks have a navigation device that has constant docking issues that results in no power to pad. Secondly, a lot of the address may not reflect or navigate leaving u in the blind with the driver leader saying its your job to get the load delivered. just know u are nothing when it comes to being an employee but a driver number and not a person, there are constant issues with the out of date system we use and over the years I've been made to feel like I'm sht not just once, but over and over. i have also been intimated by one of the leaders threatening my job when the one time i had to call out and couldn't do a load. trust u me, its just a job u use to get in the industry. don't get stuck like me working 65 hours a week for the small shell peanuts.
