Pros
The salaries at Sybase are fair, there are opportunities to advance, and there were opportunities to work on leading-edge technologies. If you worked in a remote office (from the Dublin headquarters), there was a good chance the work culture to be much better.
Cons
Sybase has a poor work-life balance. Many managers expect you to work very long hours, and working those long hours is what they valued most. It didn't matter how well you did your job or whether you got your job done, if you worked long hours and were a "yes man", then that endeared you to many. Vacation was a max of 3 weeks per year regardless how many years of service, which is unheard of in the high-tech software business.
