I worked at Symbolic Displays from 2002-2005. At leased in the engineering department — it’s a good company to work for when no one else will hire you. If your just starting your career like I was or about to retire — this is the place to be.
Cons
Social politics: The middle eastern engineering manager at the time I was hired tried to pay me less than what we agreed upon. On the first day on the job, the human resources lady told me ‟He always tries to do that.” This same man made it clear to me he didn’t like the fact that I wasn’t married. He said: ‟An unmarried man is an incomplete man.” I’m sure my marital status was a factor in why I was eventually let go after 3.5 years. My first supervisor told me: ‟You’re the best drafter in engineering by far.” After he quit a new engineer was hired who would become my supervisor. This new guy, originally Oregon, didn’t want to be a supervisor over anyone, I think because the more work I completed the more work he would have to check.; so he wanted me gone. I noticed if you excel at your profession here — some of the engineers may feel threatened and will try to get you fired. I was quietly told by one of the retiring engineers — to slow down. I went to drafting school, not acting school, but I was forced to act like I was busy drafting when half the time I was on the internet trying to kill time looking at houses and airplanes while being reminded — I will never own either if I keep working here.
