Pros

Some peers have good intentions, and want to do good work.

Cons

- Feels like an actual fraudulant business - I used to think that the reviews were exaggerating when talking about how poorly this business is run but they were unfortunately true. The solution being pitched is nowhere near what it needs to be (and sold to be), and it feels like you're fighting your internal morals when talking to customers. Leaders want to hide the lack of progress with selling the vision, but paying customers are expecting real products, not the idea of one. - Scapegoating employees for bad leadership decisions - at the recent layoffs, several tenured employees were let go. These tenured employees often navigated this toxic workplace as well as they can, but were often the messenger of the bad decisions made by leadership. With the recent round of layoffs, it was evident that the leaders wanted to shift blame to the do-ers and not take accountability for the bad decisions they had forced on their employees. - Ruled by fear - regardless of your abilities and skills going into this role, it is unlikely that you will be able to stand on what you believe. The leaders want what they want to be done, regardless of what your opinions are. Many of these thoughts are not great, and are often just a fleeting thought they had in the middle of the night. It is not explicitly said but you are expected to deliver on these fleeting thoughts during off-hours. Many discussions and important decisions (with often detrimental consequences) are made on weekends and at night, so any semblance of work-life balance is an illusion.

Pros

To be honest, there is none.

Cons

Leaders of Syndio are blatantly incompetent and ineffective. It’s obvious just how clueless the leaders here are, given their horrible decision-making and lack of sense of accountability. They’re not only ignorant and inept, but they’re also negligent and apathetic toward the employees. It’s one thing to be inexperienced, but it’s another to be simply incompetent and incapable of leading. And it’s made even worse by the leaders’ attitude of just doing the bare minimum. Syndio has a useless and weak leadership, to put it simply.

Pros

The company is not without motivation to do something given the market and demand for its products. The company is transparent about its goals and direction. There is perhaps more empathy here than at other startups which is great for work/life events. Time off and company breaks are good benefits. People and leadership are accessible and everyone has an approachable demeanor. More diverse than I have seen at other startups (that's changing though). The tech is really cool and foundation was solidly built from what I can tell. Customers appear to love our guidance and expertise in this space, which if I am not mistaken, Syndio helped to pioneer.

Cons

The employee experience has just plummeted over the last 12 months. Layoffs. Sharp engineers and leaders have left or pushed out. No one to look up to. Some people are running teams with little experience. It's not inspiring and you can't look to them for help or guidance. They are survivors, probably worried about their own jobs in this market. Leadership constantly changing direction on what to build. No clarity or detailed requirements to build anything new. It's frustrating and telling the lack of experience and maturity, especially in anything related to AI. Leaders talk well enough to an audience but you get them 1 on 1 or get specifics and their depth crumbles. We are struggling and no one is in the details enough to help or lead through it. Some leaders when stressed start blaming culture and teams for poor execution, yet they are the constant. Engineering moving to Calgary (as in Canada) which is not bad, but when you are a struggling startup looking for sharp and diverse talent, you don't typically look at the great white north to dig you out of a hole, even if they are cheaper. I don't know. I'm done with this place until something new. Add in no 401k match, bonus, wasted time on products that come and go. No real Eng leaders. Narratives by people who don't know change leadership. Moving away from consulting expertise that got us here. It's just time to call it. There just aren't enough words.
