An IPO gone wrong

Pros

Flexible schedules (provided you "make up" the time whether it be late at night or on the weekends); encouraged and if merited, compensated cross-selling between agencies and practice groups; ability to work on projects outside of your expertise area if you are a hand-raiser.

Cons

Corrupt practice heads who play favorites and talk behind their employees' backs; zero transparency during the merger between inVentiv Health and INC and even less when going public as Syneos; insane focus on billable hours; employees vindicated for taking sick days, which by company policy, are 'unlimited; angry and overworked practice heads and managers make for a very tired practice group who do not know how to help but only to be yelled at and scramble to figure things out; favorites played amongst who gets to go on new business pitches....the list goes on. If you are >5 in to your career you can do well here but don't expect to excel as a senior leader. Oh and, compensation is absolute rubbish compared to other agencies. Bonuses are tied to the overall PR group so if one practice is not high performing, you bear the brunt personally.

Pros

Excellent work life balance, generally you will work 9-5, sometimes on weekends but are given advance noticed. Casual dress code, flexible with personal, vacation and sick days. Excellent opportunity for an entry level person in terms of early exposure to a vast array of pharmaceutical companies and biotechs. Everyone is very nice, eager to help you expand your skill set, and genuinely seem to care about you as a person rather than just a coworker.

Cons

Benefits are being stripped away after moving offices - no more free lunch, no more gym membership discounts, summer parties and holiday parties are now expected to be planned by teams instead of HR, and they got rid of the office exchange program. Salaries and raises are diminutive, no bonuses, no clear trajectory for your career, extremely limited formal training opportunities. You will work really hard here, learn a ton, and be extremely undervalued.

Pros

None that come to mind

Cons

Is anyone else who works for Syneos/Inventiv experiencing trouble with getting paid on time? I noticed the company ‘forgot’ to pay me twice over the last couple of months. This week, I’ve learned they are only paying a part of my paycheck. I was told the reason is the entire accounts payable is outsourced to India, so now Inventiv/Syneos employees are responsible of tracking someone down oversees if there are any problems with their paycheck. This is taking up a lot of my time so any guidance/advice on this would be appreciated.
