      Interesting engineering work in a stagnant industry

      Nice culture; dynamic, non-monotonous engineering work; open communication; fiscally conservative stable company; EDA market leader; right company size, employees still have a name, not just a number

      Cons

      Slow industry and company growth specially in US sites, senior most positions filled from outside or relocations from international sites rather than promotions from within, no yearly cost of living salary adjustments, no yearly stock awards

      Pay for performance philosophy; therefore the culture is to work hard and you are working with some of the best and the brightest. Synopsys is a great place to learn and tackle challenging problems that impact the business - you have the ability to really make an impact at SNPS. Continuously recognized as top EDA company for customer satisfaction. Stable executive management team. Aart is a passionate leader and recognized throughout the globe. Strong committment to giving back to the local communities.

      As with most companies, there are politics, limited career growth opportunities.

      Good company to work with

      Pros

      Synopsys is a technology-oriented company that focus more on technology improvement rather than career advancement. There's no surprise that engineers would like to work with such company until certain point (see the downside later). The executive management do a good job to maintain the market share of EDA industry, and have a good vision on the future.

      Cons

      The career paths are not clear for most of the people, and getting promotion is often political rather than others. The compensation was low when you comparing to other companies, even after when Synopsys gained the market leadership. Instead of laying-off people they don't like, they put them into a position that most people will leave eventually.
