Stable job security in niche field. Some nice smart domain experts.

Cons

Top heavy management t, not enough good developers. Promotion is based primarily on scheduled timelines rather than merit. Lots of petty politics, too much pride amongst senior developers, that prevent innovation, which resulted with high turn-over rate.

Pros

Work is very interesting and technically challenging. Exposure to huge code-base and lot of industry and domain-specific knowledge.

Cons

It is a top-heavy company, the higher layers of management are very crowded, growth is pretty slow, company is reactive based on your putting papers/declaring intent to leave for promotion/raise, not proactive.

Pros

Synopsys is run by a very good no-nonsense, prudent leadership. Over the years, company has moved significantly beyond EDA and successfully ventured into multiple areas that has fueled its growth. The quality of people is fabulous - with a large proportion of people with MS or higher degrees. The quality of work is generally very good and intellectually stimulating.

Cons

Synopsys largely plays in a niche field with 3 players. The university research in this field has dried up significantly. This has limited the number of startups. It has been rather difficult to attract young talent from top notch institutes.
