Pros

A company with plenty of potential for the industry and market.

Cons

"Project managers" are actually field supervisors for subcontractors without any disciplinary authority, budget visibility, or any training or certification in project management principles. Contracts are designed by sales people without a review process with the associated project managers, resulting in incomplete designs that vary in quality and accuracy. Scope creep is common and cost management difficult as there is no cross-functional training or process improvement in place. Ethics are quietly ignored or verbally dismissed as "raising too many red flags", resulting in everything from loss of potential clients and work crews to L&I/OSHA violation fines. If you need a work truck and aren't concerned about ethical business practices, enjoy a sales-driven team and antiquated "good old boys" culture, then System Pavers is the place for you.

Some people were really nice to work with !

Management was very toxic. There would be full on screaming fights between managers and tears. Very catty and unprofessional. I know the head of the department is gone now though. She was always nice to me. However the two supporting managers were not. One was so rude she made me cry and screamed in front of everyone. She would take anger out on you. I was too young then to know how to speak up for myself. The other manager who laid me off literally told me they’re keeping the temp instead of me because she’s older and getting married so she needs the position more than me. I just sat there and took that very unethical response but now I look back and there was no reason for my lay off due to performance. They also never gave me real work and I felt my knowledge of marketing and business shrivel up. Not a place for wanting to learn and thrive. Worst management experience of my life and I’m so happy I was let go so I can be where I am today. This was a small stepping stone in my journey and I’m glad it was short lived. I do not recommend working here.

As your one star rating suggests, you did not have a good experience here at System Pavers and I am sorry to hear that. System Pavers does not tolerate the environment you have described and any report of such behavior would have been acted on quickly. We are a company that strives to be better and I can say that we continue to be a better company every day. I can assure you that the current management is both professional and ethical. Poor management: The poor managements way of “fixing” things is to cause high turnover at the lowest level jobs. Nothing is ever addressed appropriately. The higher levels of management are rewarded on jobs sold and not on the success of the company. So they care little about the quality of projects making their way into PMs hands. Good talent is usually disregarded or let go if not willing to play by the crooked rules of SP while inadequate employees willing to lie, cheat, and steal from clients are rewarded with promotions.

Since you are a current employee at System Pavers, I hope you are attending our monthly Town Hall meetings. If you are attending, you have been hearing all the great work our company is doing in ensuring System Pavers continues to be a great company to work for. The last meeting focused on our Project Managers and the improvements being made to make the Project Manager position easier which you state is your position. You say you are working in our Union City office. System Pavers has an Open-Door policy, and we encourage everyone to voice their concerns. We take all feedback seriously in our quest to improve things. After showing this review, the Regional Operations Manager is urging you to speak with him and share your insight and concerns.
