Pros

Professionally challenging from a technology point of view.

Cons

No work life balance, limited opportunity for advancement or pay raises unless you were on the "inside track", have a relationship with strategic senior managers and played the company politics well. Doing a good job, delivery of product, customer engagement, peer mentoring/relationship/team building factored little in how you are promoted or advance in your career.

Pros

Relatively good pay and benefits, and good career advancement opportunities due to many retiring baby boomers.

Cons

Perhaps overly proud of itself and complacent of its position in the market (at an employee level, not the strategic level). Employees are too proud of working for a large corporation with a long history, without thinking about the competitive and technological challenges that exist on the horizon. Difficult to innovate and improve things, as it can get very political depending on which department you work for. Leadership is in a difficult position of making decisions that are not win-win for everyone due to the reality of the market.

Pros

Career opportunities are endless. No one wants to work somewhere where everything works, right? You can move along in your career very quickly in the company if you focus a little bit on some extra value-added project above and beyond. Telus has an excellent review process for all employees.

Cons

The culture is too rooted in strong union legacy. Many of the people approaching retirement are loathe to change and should probably just leave. Following the strike in 2005, many felt abandoned by the company and never recovered. They are coasting to exit day. This holds the company back from embracing change.
