A good company with a few bad managers.

Pros

TIAA-CREF is a good company with a commitment to core values. The total compensation package is very competitive and they offer excellent benefits. They have a unique client base and solid long term performance. Their long term approach to investment management as well their approach to risk management is confidence inspiring.

Cons

Senior leadership is out of touch with what is happening on the front line. Often times their span of control is so broad that there is no way that they can maintain a sense of what is really happening. Middle management is known for shielding the EMT from the realities facing the front line and telling them what they want to hear as opposed to what they need to hear. T/C is a company where a number of middle managers have been awarded roles that they are not suited to based on tenure.

Pros

The people you work with on a daily basis are very intelligent, dedicated and extremely hardworking. Benefits are decent. Good contribution by the company to employees' retirement plans.

Cons

Unfortunately, like many big companies decisions are made based on politics and not on the merit. It seems like the company has lost its soul and forgotten the reason for its existence. Too bad as this was once an excellent company with an outstanding and very ethical reputation. Not so much any more.

Pros

People, Location, generous PTO days

Cons

Only transparent when it benefits management, Job postings are a joke, No career advancement unless your part of the good ole boy network, Diversity is more important than experience, waste money on unnecessary things yet things that benefit employees are either cut or rates are raised.
