Pros

1- Freedom to make decisions regarding the front line. 2- Ability to coach and validate associates. 3- Time to fill and clean the queue line. 4- Opportunity to affect customers' experiences positively. Just today, I happened to be by register 2 and immediately offered to bring an elderly customer's recently purchased luggage out to her car. She was overjoyed by my help, and I was happy to see her leave with a smile on her face. 5- Opportunity to protect my associates from customers who are ticket-switching, putting clearance stickers on brand-new merchandise, and returning stolen merchandise.

Cons

1- I am absolutely frustrated to come in an hour before I start work to see all the bins behind the registers overflowing with merchandise, as well as the fitting room racks and the front completely full. It is also frustrating to come in and see that the pulls have not been done. All these circumstances put the night crew behind a good hour, which is unfair to them and me. 2- The communication among coordinators, managers, and associates is non-existent. 3- Plenty of no-call/no-shows/call-ins that put the day/night crew behind even more. 4- Lazy associates who don't clean their messes or who recover by doing the bare minimum.

Way better retail jobs out there

Pros

Not the hardest job in the world, so if you're for example a college student who needs easy part time work this is the job for you.

Cons

TJ Maxx has become VERY regulated and micromanaged, so enjoy being told what to do all the time if you work there. Also, if you can only work a certain time slot every week (ex. M-F 5:00-10:00) then you're not going to get a lot of hours because the hours a lowly part time associate gets are very varied. Management doesn't really give much leeway anymore and is not really willing to go above an beyond to take care of its employees. oh and PAY SUCKS! don't ever expect to make a lot.
