Pros

• Company culture. “Humble, Hungry & People-Smart” is the mantra. I’ve worked in a couple of Engineering organizations and most Engineers were not very humble and had gigantic egos. I find my colleagues at Torc are incredibly humble and approachable. Everyone’s hungry and passionate to accomplish what we are working on. • Benefits - Compensation: Salaries are pretty competitive and there’s annual bonuses and stock options. - 4 weeks of PTO starting out and it’s front loaded (no accrual) + Winter shutdown (closed between Christmas & New Years.) - 401K: 100% match up to 6% (best immediately from day one.) - Healthcare: Great coverage (Anthem) company pays 100% of employee monthly premium. - Flexibility: A lot of remote options, otherwise hybrid (2-3 days a week) if you’re not touching hardware everyday. You’re not chained to a desk and can operate with a lot of autonomy (no pun intended.) If you have family obligations or appointments they are accommodating. • The product itself is cool and “sexy.” We’re working on Autonomous semi-trucks and our parent company is the market share leader for 18-wheeler tractor trailer trucks in North America and one of the most reputable and well respected brands in trucking for the last 130 years.

Cons

Torc has grown dramatically in the last 3-4 years, doubling in size and going from one location to five (including global expansion.) We’ve gone from a start up with little structure and established process to a more centralized, hierarchical environment with standards and operating processes. A lot of moving parts and quick transitions, there is undoubtedly some growing pains, but necessary change to scale and work toward commercializing a product. I think there were some shocked and disgruntled lifers when Michael Fleming announced he would be stepping down and Peter Schmidt took over. Michael was a great leader and got Torc to where it is today with this being his first and only post out of college. The changeover to Peter Schmidt was a logical one as he has a demonstrated track record of delivering products at scale. All in all, I really have no complaints - best place I’ve worked by far.

Pros

We have a smart and capable team. It's a very engineering-focused company, with lots of opportunity to build and innovate. The entire company is working on the same mission, which make priority conflicts between groups negligible.

Cons

It's a small company going through a transition to a big company and some of those growing pains can be felt.
