Drivers have little value here

There are no real pros to this company. The only one i might be able to give them credit for is schedule flexibility.

DRIVERS BEWARE!!!! Should you decide to go work with this company, you've been warned. Management at this company does everything possible to avoid paying you. Their payscale is VERY complicated. And that provides plenty of loopholes for them to take away all the various "extra" pays that are suppose to make up for the cruddy mileage pay. Your unpaid time spent in these trucks are managements greatest assets. For example, the companies biggest account in Omaha is a distribution center. When it came time to renegotiate the contract, management told the company that we as drivers are willing to be a shag service for free. So now when we go to this customer we are required to shag empties out of their dock doors unpaid (tacking on an extra 20-30 mins for the round). And yes, this dc does have their own shag drivers, by why use them when TSL offers up free services at the drivers expense, and it doesnt cost TSL anything to do. If you call to question the reasoning behind it you will, in a sense, be told your overpaid on other moves and that that makes up for it. BTW, those rounds they consider "overpaid" are the same examples recruiting uses to give you an idea of what you can expect working here. Vacation pay is a joke. After 3 years you finally begin to make enough to cover the 6 unpaid holidays (tho the company and all their customers shutdown for those 6 holidays, and on top of it, everyone but the mileage drivers get paid for it. And yes the few hourly drivers get paid holidays as well). After 3 years you get 10 days pto. After holidays that leaves 4 days to go towards at least 2 bad weather days. 1-2 days down bc truck fuel is bad. And whatever else might be left for when your truck breaks down. Every winter you better just assume that you will have 2 days (hope you have pto to cover) to cover the downtime you will have because your trucks fuel will be gelled up. Management decides to wait as long as possible to avoid buying treated winter fuel. and every year we hear the same lie, "The fuel vendor was suppose to give us treated fuel a week ago, guess they didnt". I personally have a hard time considering that a vacation. BTW, they also like to brag that you will never be lied to at this company. This company used to be decent, but its become obvious that the only thing management is concerned with is their yearly profit bonuses. And they will burn you any way possible to make sure its a nice one for them. Also, be prepared for your pay to change without any notice (not once since ive been here has it been to the benefit of the driver). You will just get a letter in the mail stating that 3 weeks ago management changed the payscale, and its been in effect and you as a driver, are just being told about it. Health insurance companies seem to change twice a year, you never really know what you can count on for benefits. I personally believe that since the owner has passed the company onto his sons, that they are slowly trying to put cheap labor in the driver seats. It was obvious that the owner valued drivers and all other employees that worked for him. But i would be surprised if you can find a driver at this company that feels he/she is a valued employee nowadays. Also try to find a driver whose pay hasnt decreased annually for the past 3 years. Trust me when I say, there are plenty more cons. And the amount of stress this job dumps on you is no where near the $15/hr avg (an amount i consider already cheap labor) you will make!

Pros

As a local intermodal freight company, TSL cannot be beat. After moving away from Omaha and working in the same field I see just how good an operation TSL is running. The staff is very family oriented. The equipment is newer and kept in excellent running order. The depot is kept neat and tidy. Refueling is done on site. Maintenance is prompt and experienced. Payroll disputes are handled immediately. Dispatchers are not liars. You may not hear what you want to hear but you will NEVER be lied to. All in all, TSL is one of the best companies I have ever worked for.

Cons

Omaha is cold in the winter.
