Pros
Challenging environment. Open to innovation and new technologies. TSYS is a very cutting edge credit card processing company. They are moving into all of the emerging payments processing markets. The culture is strong and they are working hard to keep the culture growing as the company grows. Stated goal is to become the world leader in electronic payment processing. Core platform is in COBOL, but many areas are working with .NET and Java. Much of the traditional core system is getting a web face lift. It can be a great place to learn a variety of technologies, and in the right areas, be on the front end of some cutting edge development.
Cons
Like most companies, TSYS struggles with having a workforce that carries it's weight. One negative about the company is that they tend to hang on to employees that are dead weight. The consequence of this is that the performing employees can be overwhelmed with work. They have an aversion to firing people, but no problem working a good horse to death! Different departments vary in this area, but company wide it tends to be an issue. For the Columbus office, the salaries tend to be as much as $25k lower than nearby Atlanta. The town in general needs to escape the cotton mill wage mentality and embrace the tech industry.
