Great company, wrong position for me

Pros

My group is very supportive and will answer any questions I may have. The office is laid back and goal driven at the same time.

Cons

I guess I could say the general things here about vacation and what not. Being in the US we can't expect much for vacation time since we are one of the worst developed nations in that regard. You start with 10 days of vacation and a floating holiday. Most holidays fall in the second half of the year so you don't get much of a break unless you take you vacation in the first 6 months of the year. On a more personal side, this position is just not a good fit for me. The company doesn't allow you transfer to another salaried position until you have been in your current position for 18 months. I'd like to stay with the company, but it would have to be in another position.

Pros

You get to work for a company owned by Warren Buffet. Salary was pretty decent starting off. Training program is like a junior level college course. Benefits and vacation time are insanely good. Managers were your best friends.

Cons

In business development department, the sales quotas were pretty stressful and hard to meet. Stuck to the desk all day.

Pros

Stability and a lot of good people and good line card for a wide customer base. Opportunity to have a good stable career without much formal college education.

Cons

Management could definitely do a better job recognizing talent and provide opportunities for their best people. For a 3000 employee company, there are too many silos and not enough people looking at the big picture
