inconsistency, constant change in leadership

Management is a secretive practice. Employee promotions are not necessarily made based upon merit. No notice of possible promotion hiring is made public within the store. The practice of awarding work hours to sales associates who merely stand around and talk as opposed to those who are staying busy isn't appreciated by those who need the job and look to their job for their income. Many women today aren't working because it is a way for them to pass their time but are working because they are supporting a family. Older women need their job, and are just as interested in advancement as the young women. Talbots appears to prefer to offer advancement to their young employees and passover or ignore older women. It would be interesting to see the ages of women who were promoted or hired outside the company as compared to ages of women who were qualified, interested and older.
