- This is one of the best jobs I could have envisioned for my self coming out of a graduate program in a computational discipline (computational neuroscience). The work has a similar sense of freedom of investigation and research that I had in my graduate studies, but gives me the additional fulfillment of feeling like I’m part of something bigger than just my narrow research project. At Tempus I’m working in a team of experts towards a common goal. We constantly learn from each other and keep each other up to date on the latest advances in our fields of work, such as machine/deep learning, immunology, and software engineering. - Impact: Life at Tempus is incredibly exciting because of our work directly improves lives. Nothing compares to hearing from doctors or patients about the way Tempus has helped them. As an engineer, I never thought I could have that kind of impact on patient lives, so it’s very rewarding and motivating at the same time. - Autonomy: We work in 6-8 person squads and build things in an iterative fashion. As a team, we get to figure out how to build something or what should be done to improve the product. It’s exciting because the work I put in directly moves the product forward rather than getting endless sing-offs and working through executive approvals. We can see progress quickly but we have the responsibility to do things the right way and plan appropriately. - team: the people here are awesome and super smart! I work with PhDs in computational biology, Kaggle Grandmasters and entrepreneurs who’ve built million (and billion) dollar businesses. Its motivating to work on problems with these people and I’m always impressed (and challenged) when I see the progress of other teams.
