Great benefits, flexible schedules, competitive pay, paid holidays. relative freedom to perform your job. Some departments (Tenncare for example) are great places to work.

Cons

Can be stressful. Some departments are difficult to work in. Heavy government involvement. When the state leadership changes, your position may be in jeopardy if you are executive services.
