While working at Texas A&M, there was a lack of transparency and honesty about shameful animal laboratory practices taking place inside Prof. Joe Kornegay's research lab, where he breeds golden retrievers to develop muscular dystrophy. Many of these dogs die while they are puppies, and those who don't die live their miserable lives in a cage where they are subjected to more breeding and painful procedures. When employees and students question administration, they are met with silence. These secretive research practices with dogs are a stain on our great university's reputation, and they need to stop.

If hired at a starting staff position, this is probably not the place to stay. Some supervisors may encourage you to grow and be supportive- but most will pressure you to stay on in a position your overqualified for. Reality is that salaried staff positions are rare and they open them up nationally. In the hiring process for those jobs they do not consider it a promotion from your current role, it is a National job search. They do not have loyalty to employees who put in years working toward a position- often times forced to do the role of that salaried position but for starvation wages. Starting employees can go through 3+ rounds of pay raises and still make less than an Amazon factory worker. Oh and you have to pay to park- and it is very expensive so if you do, you’re actually taking home Min. Wage (7.25).
