Pros

I had the privilege of serving as a Graduate and Teaching Assistant at Texas Southern University (TSU), and it was an incredibly rewarding experience that significantly shaped my academic and professional development. From the moment I joined TSU, I was welcomed into a supportive and collaborative community, with faculty members who were approachable and genuinely invested in my growth. The role was diverse and engaging, involving teaching undergraduate courses, preparing and delivering lectures, leading discussions, grading assignments, and assisting with research projects. TSU emphasized professional development, encouraging me to attend workshops and seminars that enhanced my teaching methods, research techniques, and academic writing skills. Balancing academic responsibilities with assistantship duties was manageable due to the administration's understanding of work-life balance. The most fulfilling aspect was impacting undergraduate students, helping them grasp complex concepts, and witnessing their academic growth, which reinforced my passion for teaching and solidified my decision to pursue a career in academia. Overall, my experience at TSU provided me with a solid foundation in teaching and research, invaluable professional development, and a supportive community, making it an exceptional opportunity for any graduate student.
