Pros

Free to develop your own teaching approaches within reason; department administration is accessible and supportive; diverse student population; easy commute.

Cons

While the administration is supportive, as contingent faculty, you never feel completely welcomed. The salary is incredibly poor. Administration offer a rhetoric of "We understand you aren't paid well, but there's nothing we can do about it. Please teach the bulk of our courses."
