Pros

Fun atmosphere Great co-workers Flexible scheduling Good work/life balance Benefits are excellent Compensation is usually very good

Cons

HIGHLY political, decisions are made based on who benefits, not what's best for the university Peter principle is alive and well Promotions are not earned, they are given. Better hope you're connected to the right people to advance.

Pros

Benefits, opportunities to advance, mentoring, and working with students.

Cons

Salaries are quite a bit lower, but this is pretty much the "norm" working in higher ed, and is not exclusive to Texas Tech. Understandably, education is important, however the disregard for experience, and the graduate degree expectation for some positions gets to be a bit much in some departments.
