Pros

Great focus on promoting from within, giving stretch assignments, and high performance expectations. Very ethical and professional environment.

Cons

Tight budgets and some employees cling to the "old ways" and are slow to adapt to changing business environment.

Pros

Interesting products, gratification of supporting the warfighter, schedule flexibility, average to decent benefit choices.

Cons

The Textron corporate wave is slowly crashing down and consuming AAI. People with product knowledge, good customer relationships, and experience are being ignored or swept out the door, and replaced by college degrees, spreadsheets, and dollar signs. As said in other reviews, this is causing disconnects with the end customer. Also as noted in previous reviews, internal promotion is nearly a joke (unless you are concurrently advancing through school). People can be hired off the street into a senior position, but 5 years of inside experience somehow leaves you stuck in the mud and fighting for that next step. Working in what is essentially a customer support division, continuous praise from the customer means surprisingly little to the advancement of your career. It's a sure sign of internal problems when people who you have never met face-to-face recognize your efforts... but people who work in offices 50 feet away do not. It should also be noted that thanks to GlassDoor reviews, I now know that new summer interns make more per hour than I do, after 5 years of loyalty and high performance. Disheartening, to say the least. Upper management is hit or miss. There are a few good ones left, but there are some that are totally ruthless - or even worse - worthless (but hey, they probably have a master's degree!). You try to pick up their slack to get a project completed, only to have someone else take credit for the effort. Have a good idea? Someone might steal it. Try to manage a task to overcome incompetency? You'll probably be told to step back.

Pros

Flexible work schedules and decent benefits for employees. Communication from top level management is starting to improve. Great talent among some of the entry-level people; they are willing to work hard to meet deadlines. External hires who were brought in based on their education and skill sets are our greatest assets.

Cons

The good old AAI way discourages innovation and ignores the customer in order to meet the bottom line. Management as well as mother Textron seem to be oblivious to this problem. If you are not tied to a project, related to someone, or longtime friends with the right executives, you are made to feel like an outsider. Staffing levels are poor for the amount of work that needs to be done, but project leads are stingy with funding. Senior staff who contribute nothing are asking to charge direct to programs just so they won't get the ax.
