Pros

Great business model to learn, projects actually move forward as decisions are quicker in a private company. Great front-line and mid-level people with a few standout Directors/VP's. Car lease & purchase programs are nice.

Cons

Oppressive hero worship culture for everyone director level and above for "The Family". Work-Life balance at the shared services group is non-existent (Emails & texts at 11pm or later with expectation of immediate answer). Remote work is explicitly hated/disliked by Sr. Management team at shared services as they are unable to lead without micro-management. Compensation/Benefits are extremely average even though they like to claim differently. Highly political, promotions based on being liked- not being effective. They will also prevent low to mid level people from being promoted because management is unable to back-fill their expertise and unable to run the function without that person staying in the role. This is not a theory- this was explicitly told to me as a reason for lack of promotions even for employees who were far more competent for the promotion than the person who ultimately received it. This led to a series of multiple, tenured, highly skilled mid-level managers and Sr. Staff leaving the company between 2020-2023.
