Pros

Management is great. Pay is definitely fair. Being around what you love makes any task seem easier, so as a hockey player it never "fully" feels like work. It's a great place to work when you're younger and still in high school or college.

Cons

Not any big cons here. Management at some rinks is better than others.

Great Culture and management. Ideal hours for students with good pay for your work.

Cons

Mostly night hours (good for students). Not too much room for growth.

Pros

The ability to have a flexible schedule, but you must have the minimum availability of 3 days or 20 hours to be considered or to move on in the interview process. The only confusion that I still have, which never got clarified is whether despite being say having that availability of 20 hours if it is required that you work the minimum amount. For example, if I am available Friday thru Sunday but there are certain weeks/months that I can only work say 5 hours total due to projects/other obligations, if I would be disciplined or be terminated due to lack of availability.

Cons

Truthfully, I was very excited to be given the opportunity to join this organization and have the opportunity to have fun on the job, like getting paid to ice skate. However, on Day One it became very apparent of the disorganization of managers/leadership because I was never given the tools to be successful nor did I feel like I was part of the team. For example, I was not given the proper uniform as I wear a Men's Medium but all the uniform available was Men's Extra Large and was given a Women's size uniform instead. It was frustrating because management/leadership knew that new employees were joining, yet they didn't seem prepared for the new employees. In addition, no adequate training was ever provided. For example, it would be helpful to have an FAQ paper in front of me when answering the phone or a training packet or a list of the day's events. I have a very strong passion for providing excellent customer service, yet management/leadership did not share my beliefs because the very basic tools to help a new employees get familiar with terminology or pass correct information to customers was not shared/communicated as the standard was to refer people back to the website. If I was a customer and I had called about a question, and was referred back to the website, I would be quite upset especially if I had already looked at the website first. Furthermore, management/leadership views training as "learning by doing" but you get dissatisfaction shake of the head when you do something that is wrong despite not truly knowing the proper procedure. Basically you get in trouble for doing something wrong, and you explain that you didn't know because no one told you or showed you, and management/leadership tells you that they are telling you now so you should know better. That type of style does not work because you are automatically set-up to fail and that is no way to be successful. I was very frustrated to see how truly disorganized this organization is because despite how Great Park Ice is a new facility within The Rinks portfolio, management/leadership has been around and well-established for many years, yet the way that business is conducted makes it seem that it was just established last month.

Pros

If you love hockey the job comes easy. Easy work. Flexible schedule. Get to know the hockey community. Deals on leagues.

Cons

Power play meetings can become annoying. Management can seem distant at times. Work can be repetitive. Have to deal with angry players who think they deserve NHL caliber referees.

Pros

- Ability to perform various roles which doesn't make your job mundane. - Learning about hockey was awesome. - They host a bunch of cool events so you get to meet people from all over the place. - Learned customer service skills, money management, how to skate, scheduling, etc.
