Pros

Working in the estimating department in Chicago gives you lots of visibility. Lots of career mobility, benefits outside of compensation are very good. If you’re unhappy with what you’re doing just ask to move and you can be doing something totally different in one week.

Cons

Depending on the team, your hours may range from bad to atrocious, and your experience is nearly entirely based on the quality of boss or lead estimator. Very “old school” mentality - “figure it out and if you don’t want to work the hours to do so, remember that you’re replaceable.”
