Family Owned Company Building a Premium Brand

Pros

As a family owned business, we don't have to answer to analytics and shareholders. We have a clear purpose and path and make decisions based on the vision of the brand, the people we serve and employ and the path that we want to forge. ThermoWorks has decided to do things differently which means it will continue to stand out and endure in our marketplace.

Cons

We're a growing company that isn't interested in selling itself off to the highest bidder, so we grow at a realistic, sustainable pace. Sometimes that means that an employee can't "move up" at the pace that other startup companies promise. Additionally, because the business is also owned outright, there are no stock or equity options. That is a problem for some while others appreciate the more predictable, straightforward compensation plan. Finally, our field can sound intimidating to some. While there is certainly a learning curve (especially if you haven't spent much time around thermometers), there is also unending support, training and access to helpful resources to help employees learn as much as they'd like to about what we do and how to help others use our products to make their lives better.

Pros

I’ve had an incredibly positive experience working here. The company culture is truly amazing—supportive, inclusive, and genuinely people-focused. Leadership is approachable and invested in employee success, and there’s a strong sense of trust across all levels. Work-life balance is not just talked about, but actually respected, which makes a huge difference day to day. There are excellent opportunities for growth and development, with encouragement to learn and take on new challenges. The environment is welcoming and inclusive, and people genuinely enjoy working together. There’s a fun, collaborative atmosphere where teamwork is valued and accomplishments are celebrated.

Cons

Honestly, I can't think of anything. However, leadership is open to feedback and is continually working to make things better.
