Pros

discount on food, hotels, porter flights

Cons

I actually cannot believe I worked here for a few months. I was hired as a pool attendant. The description of the job was a LOT more glamorous then the job was. I was supposed to fold towels, and check people into the pool, those were my outline duties. I was also told IN PERSON AT THE INTERVIEW i would be apart of the tip out. Neither of these things happened. After the first day of not being tipped out, they told us we would not be apart of the tip out. On top of folding towels and checking people in, i was told to help serve people, take on the roll of a hostess time to time, security (I am literally 5"2 and have the strength of a chicken) buss boy, house keeping and more. I was also asked to pick up glasses of alcohol when I was 17, and did not have my smart serve. The stuff they made you do was absolutely ridiculous, not to mention you aren't allowed to go to the bathroom on the rooftop, you have to go down 18 floors to the basement, awesome right? On top of that, I was made to stand outside for 9-10 hours a day, no umbrella, not allowed to wear a hat. I would get my schedule, and then as I am leaving to go to my shift i would get a text 10 minutes before telling me not to come in, it was raining. Or i would get there work 2 hours and they would send me home.... (pretty sure the legal minimum is 3). Overall, I have worked well over 5 different part-time/full time jobs from age 15-18. I have NEVER been in an environment that had a more disorganized management team than at Thompson, who also promised me things while I was signing an employment contract and then never fulfilled them. The only reason why I stayed at the job a couple months before quitting was because the people i worked with (NOT management) were so fun to work with, and the people that lived at the Thompson condos who were regulars became good friends with me. Overall, you can get a better job that has better management at probably any other outdoor bar in Toronto, who actually give you tips and follow protocols as well. Save yourself some time and do not work here. PS I FORGOT TO MENTION. I asked for a certain day off 2 months in advance, confirmed with management it was okay. I was assigned a shift the day I asked for off, and emailed to tell them i confirmed i got it off 2 months prior. Out of the 3 managers, NO ONE answered my email. It was 2 days before my shift and my friend emailed them to ask a quick question and 2/3 of them responded within 10 minutes LOL. I then proceeded to ask them why they weren't able to answer my email about a shift i got off, but answer my co-workers about an umbrella. They then said sorry and asked me to try and make it. I said no, and didn't show up for that shift. They never email me or called me and never got mad at me for not showing up, because THEY messed up. It was never mentioned and they did not apologize.
