Pros

Knowing that you are working to make a real difference in people's lives, and have the ability to impact your community / organization that creates change.

Cons

Every organization is made up of real people. None of us are perfect, this no organization can be either. However, issues are addressed and rectified more effectively than at any other organization I have worked for

Great benefits, bad career development

Pros

-Great benefits, generous PTO, pension AND 401k -Long tenure and low turnover. People stick around. -Very big into volunteering and supporting local communities and abroad through Thrivent Builds -Values generosity and giving.

Cons

-Very slow to make changes. While taking precautions is great, what isn't great is having your division be in a never-ending reorg while telling employees "new job opportunities will happen" when they haven't and probably never will. -Moving up appears to only happen if you're friends with the right people or have a costly MBA degree which means Thrivent is missing out on it's own talent pool that come from very diverse backgrounds. -Doesn't even closely match up to other Financial Services that are HUGE supporters in the GLBT community such as Ameriprise Financial. Thrivent remains conflicted between its "neutral" position on "controversial issues" (not allowing foundation dollars to match gifts to organizations such as HRC) and it's own internal "Diversity and Inclusion" department. GLBT employees are not controversial. -Some people who work here claim they're working here because "Thrivent is a Christian organization." Thrivent is not a church, it's a not-for-profit fraternal benefit society who's membership is comprised of those who happen to share in the Christian faith.

Pros

New employees start out with 20 days of PTO and are eligible for other benefits right away. Company promotes self-development and offers 80% tuition reimbursement.

Cons

IT department is afraid of change and innovation. Frustrating change management practices.
